Green flag success

Published by under Green School,School News

We are delighted to announce that our school will be receiving its 10th Green Flag ! Suzanne Dempsey from Roscommon County Council visited our school last week to assess all the work we have done on the theme of Energy and Global Citizenship. She was very impressed by all the work that has been carried out in each class and the knowledge the children have on this theme. We will receive our flag in May and we will have a special flag raising ceremony and celebration. A special thanks to our wonderful Green Committee (aka the Green Machines)  for all their hard work throughout the year. Have a look below at some of the Energy displays/projects from around our school!

Trócaire Bun Sale!

Today , Tuesday March 6th, we had a rice krispie bun sale in school. Ms.Rigney’s 3rd and 4th class made yummy chocolate rice krispie buns at home. They set up their stall in the gym and every child in the school got a delicious bun and a drink of juice for €1. All the money raised goes to Trócaire as part of their Lenten campaign. It is also part of our Green Schools programme where we learn about Global Citizenship and how we can help those who are less well-off than we are. We raised €235 !! Thank you and well done to everyone for supporting such a worthy cause.

Energy work-shop

Dara from S.E.A.I did an Energy work-shop in our class yesterday.

We learned all about renewable and non-renewable types of energy.

We made a battery using a potato, zinc, copper and wires. We connected the wires to the metal. We then made a bulb light up.

We played a quiz game at the end, it was fun .

We watched a video about how we can save energy, at home and in school.

Have a read of some useful tips below.

We learned that if we all make small changes, together we will make a big difference.

By; Ms.Rigney’s 3rd class.
