All Ireland Champions in Cornafulla

It was a very exciting afternoon here in Cornafulla NS yesterday! As you all know, Roscommon won the 2026 All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Championship by defeating Fermanagh in Croke Park on the 2nd August. Finbar Egan and Marie Kelly were the managers of the team. Five of the players (Jenny Higgins, Mia Macken, Caoimhe Lennon (Vice Captain), Róise Lennon, Aine Connaughton) and Joe Fallon (Management team) brought the Mary Quinn winning trophy to our school. It was lovely to celebrate with our own Áine Lennon (Management team), Joe Fallon (Management team) and with these champion ladies! Jenny worked as a teacher in Cornafulla a few years ago and the other players are all past pupils! We are so proud of them all! Mr Farrell spoke about their victory and the importance of never giving up when playing sport. He thanked them all for taking the time to visit our school.

Have a look at our video.

We hope that you all have a great weekend.

Cheque Presentation

Many thanks to our very active and hard working Parents’ Association for all their help, support, and fundraising initiatives over the last  year. The P.A. presented the school with a cheque for €6,237 in June. This fantastic amount raised will support ongoing improvements across the school for the benefit of all our children, including updating our IT devices and our long‑term goal of upgrading the pitch facilities. We are also very grateful to the Cornafulla community for your continued support of these fundraising initiatives.

Ms Quigley’s Legacy of Fun, Learning and Kindness

We wish Ms Quigley a very happy retirement and lots of happiness as she begins the next chapter of her life. She has given our school so many wonderful memories, ideas and traditions that we will always treasure and continue to enjoy.

Everyone will remember Ms. Quigley for her sense of fun and creativity  especially her never ending costumes for Halloween and World Book Day. She helped us all to love reading and always made sure our school library was filled with exciting, up to date books.

“Knitting with Ms. Quigley” is something her past pupils enjoyed . It was extra special when children’s grannies came into the classroom to help them and their friends. They were lovely moments filled with kindness, fun and working together.

Ms. Quigley also brought history to life by organising lots of local history trips. Her classes learned so much by going out, looking around and discovering our local area together.

At Wednesday’s assembly, the children sang a special song for Ms. Quigley, celebrating many of the things we love and will remember about her. It was a lovely tribute, and you can listen to it in the video below.

Thank you, Ms. Quigley, for everything you have done for our school  for your kindness, your creativity and all the wonderful activities you shared with us. Your ideas and traditions will live on in our classrooms for many years to come!

Wishing you a long and wonderful retirement filled with happiness and new adventures.

A trip down memory lane with Ms. Quigley.

A Whirlwind Final two weeks!

We’ve had a whirlwind finish to our school year, and what fun it has been! All our classes headed off on their school tours last week, returning with great memories and tired legs. Children from 1st to 6th Class also took part in soccer blitzes over the last two weeks, showing great teamwork and determination.

Fifth and Sixth Class enjoyed their now annual end of year soccer blitz, with their buddies proudly walking them onto the pitch,  it’s fast becoming  a Cornafulla tradition!

At our final assembly yesterday, medals were presented to the girls’ Gaelic football and soccer teams after a hugely successful year. Ms. Quigley also awarded certificates to some  excellent attenders. We took a special moment to thank Ms. Quigley for her many years of wonderful teaching and dedication to our school. We are sad to say goodbye, but delighted for her as she begins the next chapter of her life. The choir and 3rd Class sang a beautiful song celebrating some of  her many many legacies, a really touching moment. Martina  presented Ms. Quigley with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the Parents Association.

Today we celebrated our 6th Class Graduation, beginning with Mass celebrated by Fr John, followed by medal and certificate presentations. Mr. Farrell then brought us down memory lane, recalling some highlights from 2018/2019,  the year most of the class first joined us.

As always it was lovely to see so many parents, grandparents and siblings gathered for this special occasion. Ms. Hayman created a tear‑jerker movie with photos from the children’s years in Cornafulla, a gorgeous trip down memory lane that definitely required a few tissues!! Thank you, Mrs. Hayman, for this great movie.

Afterwards, the Parents’ Association kindly helped to serve refreshments, along with the delicious home bakes made by Ms Lennon.. A huge thank you to the P.A. and to Ms. Lennon, it was a lovely way to finish the celebrations.

5th and 6th World Cup Blitz

5th and 6th Class pupils  have been involved in the annual World Cup Soccer Blitz over the past few days. Thanks to Mr Shine and Mr Dolan for organising our World Cup in Cornafulla. They were great referees for the matches.

Before the competition began the 8 teams were accompanied onto the pitch by their Junior and Senior Infant buddies. (Please watch video.)

The final was a closely fought contest between Scotland and the Netherlands. In the end a solitary separated the sides with Scotland claiming the coveted replica World Cup trophy. Well done to all the pupils who took part in an event that has become a Cornafulla NS tradition over the past few years.

June Assembly

Published by under School News

We had our final assembly at school today.  Mr Farrell welcomed Fr Ray and Martina Kennedy to our special assembly. As you may know, Ms Quigley is retiring. Martina made a presentation to Ms Quigley on behalf of the Parents Association. Aela (6th Class) made a presentation to her on behalf of their 6th Class because they had her as their teacher for two years. The children will always remember Ms Quigley for teaching them how to knit and for the fun trips!

Ms Quigley presented quite a few students with certificates and pens for excellent attendance. We are very proud of these students.

Mr Glennon and Ms Duncan presented medals to the girls who won their Cumann na mBunscol county final recently. They also got lovely photos that were taken of them that evening. Mr Farrell spoke about the importance of working hard after a defeat in sport. These girls showed great determination on the pitch. Congratulations girls! Mr Glennon thanked Mr Farrell for always promoting sport in Cornafulla.

Mr Dolan and Ms Duncan presented medals to the girls who played in  The Provincial Mini 7s and represented Roscommon recently. They finished in joint place with Mayo and Galway. Well done girls!

Mr Farrell also gave an award to Sam (4th Class) for always ringing the bell on the yard. Sam was such a help to the staff and pupils as our school bell hasn’t been working for quite a while. Thank you Sam!

Thank you to our choir who sang so beautifully in our assembly today. Thanks to the staff for playing the music for them. They sang a special song for Ms Quigley. Mr Farrell finished the assembly by telling the children to have a lovely summer. Have a look at our short video and photos!
