Bun Sale

This morning we had a Rice-Krispie Bun Sale for Trócaire.

Children in Ms.Rigney’s class and Mr.Glennon’s class made delicious, tasty buns. For €1, each child in the school got a bun and drink.

We raised €262. We will present a cheque to Alicia, from Trócaire, when she visits our school next Wednesday. She will talk to the children from Second Class to Sixth Class about the work Trócaire does in countries experiencing famine .

Thanks to all the parents and children for baking buns and for sending in money. Have a look at our photostory!

Data

Published by under Infants

Mr McCormack started doing Teaching Practice with Ms Egan’s Senior Infants on Wednesday 26th April. He will be working with them until Friday 12th May.

The children have been working on Data in Maths for the last three days. Mr McCormack read a story called “The Missing Cake” to the children. There were four characters in this story. (Garry the Garda, Laura the Librarian, Fiona the Firefighter and Mike the Mechanic)

The children worked in groups. They made their own graphs. Mr McCormack asked them to find the character who appears the most. He asked them questions about their graphs. Have a look at our photos!

3rd Class Trip

Published by under 3rd & 4th Class

Today 3rd class paid a visit to Meehambee Megalithic Tomb and to Nure wakehouse or ‘Caoinne Marbh’. We were very lucky with the weather!. There was a lovely pathway to the tomb and we could smell the wild garlic. We also passed signs which told us all about the flora, fauna and birds to be found in Drum. Mr. Anton Lennon and Mr. Jimmy Moore told us about the local history. We thought the wakehouse was creepy! We really enjoyed our visit and we would love to go back again. Have a look at our photos…

Tag Rugby Blitz

Published by under Active school flag

Today, the children in 1st and 2nd class took part in a Tag Rugby Blitz in Buccaneers Rugby club. Cornafulla N.S. had four teams participating and each team played against different schools from Athlone. It’s safe to say all that training on a Wednesday was well worth it, as each team scored a number of tries. It was a great day out for all and we might even have a few professional rugby players in the near future!!!

ISPCA

Published by under Infants,School News

Ms Finn arranged for the three Infant classes to visit the ISPCA in Keena, Co. Longford last week. Ms O’Connell and her Junior Infants  went there last Thursday 30th March. Some of the Senior Infants went with them. Mrs Fitzgerald went too. Kelly was their tour guide. The rest of the Senior Infants went there on Friday 31st March. Ms Finn, Ms Egan and Ms Browne went with these children. Denise was their tour guide.

All of the children really enjoyed the trip. Kelly and Denise told the children about the appalling conditions the animals were in when they first came to the centre. The animals sometimes have to be treated for eye infections and injuries. Most of the animals are suffering from starvation when they come in. All of the animals get regular check ups and  exercise at the centre .

The children got to hold two lovely puppies. These pups are called Blue and Paddington. Ms Finn nearly brought them home! Families are allowed to come to the ISPCA and bring a dog for a walk. Thanks to the parents for sending in the 6 euro for the trip. This covered the cost of the bus and a small donation for the ISPCA. Take a look at our movie!

The childrens’ baby carrots are doing very well. They water them twice a week and leave them on a window so they get plenty of light. The children will bring home their Sow and Grow cups on Friday. They will continue to water them at home. Have a look at our photos!
