Seachtain na Gaeilge

Published by under Uncategorized

We are having great fun in school this week!

As part of our ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ activities we will have a céilí in the hall on Friday. Each class is learning an Irish dance or a cluiche clós (play-ground game) , which they will perform for all the other classes to see! Children and teachers will be decked-out in ‘green’ on the day!

The older classes are learning a ‘seanfhocal’  each day and we will have a ‘tráth na gceist’ (quiz) on Friday. Is breá linn an Ghaeilge!

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig daoibh go léir!

Trócaire Bun Sale!

Today , Tuesday March 6th, we had a rice krispie bun sale in school. Ms.Rigney’s 3rd and 4th class made yummy chocolate rice krispie buns at home. They set up their stall in the gym and every child in the school got a delicious bun and a drink of juice for €1. All the money raised goes to Trócaire as part of their Lenten campaign. It is also part of our Green Schools programme where we learn about Global Citizenship and how we can help those who are less well-off than we are. We raised €235 !! Thank you and well done to everyone for supporting such a worthy cause.

Science is fun!

Published by under Uncategorized

Today our class did a fun science experiment about energy. We added a vitamin C tablet to a container of water. We put the lid on the container, shook it and turned it upside down. We stood back and after a few seconds there was an explosion!! This is because there was a release of chemical energy and a lot of gas built up inside the container! The containers and their lids ended up everywhere. Luckily we did the experiment outside!

3rd & 4th Class Futsal

On Friday 1st December some of the boys and girls from 3rd and 4th class travelled to Kiltoom to take part in the annual Roscommon futsal competition. The tournament was held on the Hodson Bay Celtic astro turf pitch. Our school took part in the large schools competition against Ballybay N.S., Cloonakilla N.S. and Roxboro N.S.

Great skill and determination was displayed by both our boys and girls teams. Our girls team were defeated in their semi final by a strong Ballybay team. The boys team made it to the final and after a close first half they were able to move clear of Cloonakilla in the second half and won the match by 6 goals to 3. This is a great achievement and the boys will receive their medals at a later date.

Girls Squad: Heater Beale, Kate Flynn, Teagan Murphy, Emily Harrington, Keara Mc Coy, Saoirse Mc Teague, Jasmine Mustapha.

Boys Squad: Dan Costello, Conor Fennell, Luke Wheatley, John Timlin, Peter Brennan, Oran Cox, Barra Powell, Ryan Daly, Jake Flynn, Adam Shine Mc Gann.

Christmas Recycled Decorations

Published by under Uncategorized

It’s time to ‘deck the halls’ !!

As part of our Green School activities we encourage the children to make a Christmas  decoration using recycled materials. The decorations will be hung on the school Christmas Tree or along the corridors. There will be a treat for every child who takes part. It would be great if all decorations were completed by Monday Dec. 10th.

So get creative!

Thank you, Ms.Rigney and the Green Committee!
